INVESTOR ESPRESSO · MARKET CONTEXT · 2 NOVEMBER 2026
A new funding framework.
The transmission test starts now.
The People’s Bank of China conducted 541 billion yuan of overnight reverse repos at 1.25% on 2 November, meeting the demand submitted by participating primary dealers. The operation implements the revised framework announced on 30 October.
2 NOVEMBER OPERATION · OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
¥541 billion at 1.25%
Gross overnight operation. This figure alone does not measure net liquidity added to the system.
What changed
The framework makes fixed-rate overnight operations a daily working-day tool. Seven-day operations move to multiple-rate auctions, mainly around tax-payment periods and month-end. The announcement changes the operating framework; today’s implementation should not be described as a newly announced rate cut.
Why it matters
Our interpretation: a policy framework matters through the financing conditions that follow. Watch whether market funding rates become more stable, whether liquidity is available when institutions need it, and whether that support reaches borrowers.
A large gross operation can coexist with repayments or maturities elsewhere. It is therefore premature to infer a net injection, stronger company profits or an equity-market direction from the headline amount alone.
What we review next
Subsequent funding rates, net operations and credit availability will provide a better test of transmission. For our covered companies, a change in earnings assumptions needs company-specific evidence. This development alone does not justify changing an existing research score.
The Espresso Index composite remains N/A. This policy story supplies market context; it does not fill the missing participation, momentum or validated credit inputs.
